Abstract

This study investigates the influence of learning motivation on Arabic language mastery among medical students and explores the emergence of learning strategies as a qualitative implication. Using a mixed-method approach with an explanatory sequential design, the research involved 63 students from two classes. Quantitative data were analyzed using simple linear regression, which showed that learning motivation had a significant and positive effect on students’ Arabic language proficiency. Students with higher levels of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation tended to achieve better academic performance. Furthermore, qualitative findings revealed that motivated learners naturally developed effective learning strategies, such as collaborative study, the use of Arabic digital resources, and self-directed exposure to Arabic texts. These results highlight the critical role of motivation in supporting Arabic language acquisition and suggest that encouraging learner-driven strategies can enhance language learning outcomes, particularly in non-linguistic academic contexts like medical education.
