Development of an Etiquette Mentoring Module for Phase A Elementary School Students

Abstract

Elementary school students' misbehavior can be caused by various factors, both from within the child and from the family environment. The lack of religious education, parental attention, and weak foundations of faith are the main causes of children's poor social behavior. This research aims to develop a mentoring module for manners that is suitable for the developmental characteristics of phase A students (ages 6–8) in elementary school. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach through library research and field research. The literature review focuses on the programs The First Six Weeks of School and The First Two Weeks of School implemented at SDIT Ummul Quro Bogor and the book How the Prophet Educated Children (Manhaj Tarbiyah an-Nabawiyah Li ath-Thifl) by Dr. Muhammad Ibnu Abdul Hafidh Suwaid. Meanwhile, data collection in the field was conducted through questionnaires, observations, and interviews with teachers, parents, and the school principal. The research results indicate that character education through the FSW and FTW programs is still insufficient in fully shaping the students' manners. Therefore, a character mentoring module was developed as a continuation of the habituation program. This module is designed to help educators instill values of etiquette such as etiquette towards Allah, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), parents, peers, and oneself with an approach that is appropriate for the age and developmental stages of phase A students. Based on the validation results by experts and practitioners, this adab mentoring module is deemed highly suitable for use as a means of early character education.
