The Influence of Emotional Intelligence and Mental Health on Bullying Behavior Among Students at MAN 1 Sinjai

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to: (1) describe the emotional intelligence of students at MAN 1 Sinjai; (2) describe the mental health of students at MAN 1 Sinjai; (3) describe the bullying behavior of students at MAN 1 Sinjai; (4) analyze the influence of students' emotional intelligence on bullying behavior at MAN 1 Sinjai; (5) analyze the influence of students' mental health on bullying behavior at MAN 1 Sinjai; and (6) analyze the combined influence of students' emotional intelligence and mental health on bullying behavior at MAN 1 Sinjai. This study employs an *ex post facto* design. The population consists of 540 students, while the sample comprises 213 students selected using simple random sampling. The research instruments used were questionnaires measuring emotional intelligence, mental health, and bullying behavior. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics—specifically multiple linear regression—with the aid of the SPSS 25 software application. The results indicate that: (1) the average emotional intelligence score of students at MAN 1 Sinjai is 120.23, placing it in the moderate category; (2) the average mental health score is 129.22, placing it in the moderate category; (3) the average bullying behavior score is 93.85, placing it in the moderate category; (4) students' emotional intelligence has a significant influence on bullying behavior at MAN 1 Sinjai (83.3%, with a significance value of 0.000); (5) students' mental health has a significant influence on bullying behavior at MAN 1 Sinjai (82%, with a significance value of 0.000); and (6) students' emotional intelligence and mental health jointly influence bullying behavior at MAN 1 Sinjai (83.3%). The value is 0.000. Following testing, the proposed hypothesis was proven and accepted.
