Implementing the Card Sort Method to Enhance Students’ Learning Motivation in Islamic Cultural History (SKI) Learning

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the Card Sort method, analyze its impact, and measure the improvement in students' learning motivation in the subject of Islamic Cultural History (ICH) after participating in learning activities using this method. The study was conducted based on field conditions indicating that students' learning motivation in Islamic Cultural History remained relatively low. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest model. The research subjects consisted of 20 students from class V-A at MI Al-Ikhlas Garut. Data were collected through observation and learning achievement tests, including pretests and posttests. The research instrument underwent validity and reliability testing, with all 20 test items being declared valid. Furthermore, the Cronbach’s Alpha reliability coefficient of 0.879 indicated a very high level of reliability. The findings revealed that the implementation of the Card Sort method was carried out very effectively, as evidenced by the observation results of teacher and student activities, which obtained a total score of 83 and were categorized as excellent. The students' average pretest score of 61.40 increased to 78.65 on the posttest. The normality test results showed significance values of 0.629 for the pretest and 0.001 for the posttest. In addition, the N-Gain score of 0.44 (44%) was categorized as moderate. These findings indicate that the Card Sort method is effective in improving students' learning motivation in the Islamic Cultural History subject.
