Abstract

Moral crisis and ethical disorientation in modern humans have reached a crucial point, affecting various social sectors, including educational institutions in Indonesia. This study examines the dialectical discourse between two prominent Muslim scholars, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and Ahmad Hassan from Persatuan Islam (Persis), in response to the challenges posed by secular modernity. Employing a qualitative philosophical-comparative method with a normative-pragmatic approach, data analysis was conducted through content analysis, comparative analysis, and conceptual synthesis of the primary sources from both figures. This article demonstrates that al-Attas emphasizes the internalization of the concept of ta'dib (the instillment of adab) as the core of education to counter secularism. Meanwhile, Ahmad Hassan highlights the purification of adab and morals (akhlak) based on authoritative references and textual rationality. The synthesis of both perspectives yields a holistic moral education paradigm that combines an authentic theological anchor with concrete, applicative guidance for contemporary educational institutions aiming to foster solid moral integrity amidst modern transformations.
