Abstract

This article aims to examine the educational thought of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi regarding the holistic development of human potential in the educational process. Pestalozzi viewed education not merely as a means of transmitting knowledge, but also as a process of shaping character and developing intellectual, moral, and physical capacities in a balanced manner. His ideas emerged as a response to the educational system of his time, which was largely traditional and formal, emphasizing memorization and the acquisition of knowledge alone. According to Pestalozzi, education should be child-centered and should consider the natural development, experiences, and life needs of learners. Through this approach, education is expected to help individuals develop their potential optimally while preparing them to participate responsibly in social life. Therefore, Pestalozzi’s educational thought contributes significantly to the development of educational concepts that emphasize the balance between individual growth, character formation, and the role of human beings within society.
