The Implementation of Spirituality and Religiosity Values by Islamic Religious Education (PAI) Teachers in Fulfilling Their Role as Professional Educators at SMP IT Sehati Bina Insani Karawang

Abstract

This study aims to explore the understanding, implementation, challenges, and efforts of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers regarding the application of spiritual and religious values while performing their professional roles at SMP IT Sehati Bina Insani Karawang. A descriptive qualitative research method was employed, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving PAI teachers, the principal, the vice-principal, administrative staff, and students. The findings indicate that PAI teachers perceive spirituality as an inner approach to Allah rooted in sincere intention, whereas religiosity is manifested through acts of worship, moral conduct, and daily discipline aligned with Islamic principles. The implementation of spiritual values is reflected in practices such as taqarrub (drawing closer to Allah), muraqabah (awareness of being under Allah’s surveillance), and istiqamah (consistency in goodness); meanwhile, the implementation of religiosity is evidenced by the instilling of tauhid (monotheism) values, teachers modeling exemplary moral character, and the habituation of worship all of which serve as the foundation for strengthening the teachers' professional character. Key challenges faced by the teachers include time management, emotional pressure, and balancing domestic and professional roles; however, these are addressed through consistent efforts to maintain worship practices, participate in learning communities, and strengthen social support systems. The study underscores that the professionalism of PAI teachers is measured not only by pedagogical competence but also by spiritual integrity and religiosity, which are visibly manifested in their attitudes, behaviors, and positive influence on the school environment as a whole.
