Strengthening Religious Values ​​as an Effort to Minimize Students' Exposure to Violent Content at SMPN 1 Karawang Timur

Abstract

This study aims to explore how the reinforcement of religious values can minimize the exposure of violence-related content among students at SMPN 1 Karawang Timur. The increasing phenomenon of violence among adolescents influenced by digital media highlights the importance of character formation through education. This qualitative descriptive study employs data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study include the school principal, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, and students. The findings of the study show that the religious value reinforcement program implemented by the school, through various religious activities such as morning Quran recitation, congregational prayers, and regular short religious lectures, plays a significant role in instilling moral and spiritual values in students. These programs help students develop patience, honesty, and empathy, thereby reducing their tendencies to engage in violent behavior. Additionally, the PAI teachers play an active role in character building through communicative approaches and by setting examples for the students. However, this study also identifies several challenges, such as the lack of parental supervision outside of school and the negative influence of social media content. Despite these challenges, the reinforcement of religious values has proven to be an effective strategy in shaping better character development among students. Therefore, collaboration between schools, families, and the surrounding environment is essential to strengthen the achieved outcomes.
